Have you ever think of the best way how to convince your kids to wash the hands? Every kid knows that they should wash the hands but they don’t really understand the reason, they just know that they have to do it, because their parents or teacher tells them to.
Well, teacher Jaralee Metcalf, a behavioral specialist from Idaho Falls Elementary School, did an experiment to show the power of handwashing to the kids in her class. Since it is pretty hard to explain to kids how bacteria and viruses work, she came up with the idea of using slices of bread in order to visually explain how the bacteria is spreading.
5 slices of bread have been used in the experiment, each for five level of cleanliness of the kids hands. They had to touch the pieces of bread, then put them into individual plastic bags and observe what will happen to the slices for one month
First one was rubbed on classroom laptops.
Second one was left untouched to easily observe the differences after one month.
Another one was touched by all kids with dirty, unwashed hands.
On forth one kids washed hands with warm water and soap and then touched the slice.
The last one was touched by kids who used hand sanitizer on their hands
After one month results were more than suggestive. Unbelievable ha?
